The Digital SAT Launches in March 2023

Starting Spring 2023, international students will be taking the SAT digitally! No more pencil and bubble sheets... the SAT is graduating to the virtual world.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

First thing's first, the Digital SAT is NOT the regular SAT on a computer screen. According to the College Board, they have taken, "the opportunity to make the SAT a far better test experience for you."

HOW WILL IT BE DIFFERENT?

The test will be taken on a custom-built application called Bluebook that allows for the test to be adaptive. And what does it mean, for a test to be adaptive?

An adaptive test is one that customizes itself to the performance of the student. Meaning, the better a student's performance in section one, the harder their section two questions will be, and the more points each question will be worth. So... ensure to do very well in the first section, so you can score big on the second!

OTHER CHANGES TO THE EXAM
  • TIME
The exam will be shorter- 2 hours in length with a greater time allowance, per question. The Digital SAT focuses less on speed and more on college readiness.
  • BYE BYE LONG PASSAGES
Reading passages will be shorter with one question per passage, instead of 11 questions alongside a long passage.
  • READING AND WRITING
Instead of two separate sections, Reading & Writing are now combined into one section.
  • LESS CONFUSION
Writing questions will no longer test commonly confused words or idiomatic phrases.
  • FASTER RESULTS
Scores from the Digital SAT will be released to the students in a shorter time than the paper-pencil assessment. As a matter of fact, students can expect their Digital SAT results within days! This will give students more time to make necessary decisions regarding their future.
  • TECHNICAL CHANGES
Bluebook software is equipped with a countdown clock to aid students in managing their time during the examination. A calculator is also built in, which students can use for the entirety of the Math section (you can also bring your own).

Overall, the test is designed to better ascertain your readiness for college. There is a clear attempt at reducing the stress and anxiety of the test and focusing more on aptly determining your ability to succeed in college.

HOW TO BE READY FOR THE DIGITAL SAT?

Outside of regular test preparation, you will need to familiarize yourself with the Bluebook application and ensure the device you intend to use meets the requirements.
